DoCoMo launched two new phones based on the advanced open Symbian OS standard, lifting the the total number of phones running on the platform in Japan to fourteen.
The two new mobile phones are the FOMA M1000 and FOMA F700iS, both are 3G compatible.
The FOMA M1000 is manufactured by Motorola whereas the FOMA F700iS is manufactured by Fujitsu.
Motorola, the second largest mobile phone manufacturing company in the world seems to be betting heavily on the Symbian OS - this is their fourth mobile phone using the technology.
The FOMA M1000, manufactured by Motorola for NTT DoCoMo’s 3G FOMA network, is the fourth Symbian OS-enabled phone from Motorola and uses UIQ, the user interface from UIQ Technology.
The M1000 has some firsts to its credit: it is the first Motorola phone developed for NTT DoCoMo and is a WLAN-integrated W-CDMA and GSM/GPRS dual-mode 3G phone. FOMA M1000 offers the business user full access to the internet through the Opera 7.5 browser. A subscription to business mopera allows M1000 users to connect remotely to their company intranet.
Last May the board of Symbian appointed Nigel Clifford to the post of Chief Executive Officer. Mr Clifford will took up his position in June 2005.

Hi Walter:
WWJ was at that launch event for the M1000, Free Video Here
Should note it's the first unit since DoCoMo rolled i-Mode services that does Not have an i-Mode button to launch the official menu.. that 'shocker' formed the main portion of discussion during Q&A after their introduction power-point, as you might imagine.
Finally, thought you would like to know that indeed DoCoMo's last Motorola handset was 1998's release of the M206.
Cheers,
Lars.
